San Diego woman sentenced for role in smuggling 44 people
A San Diego woman who hid 44 people at her home after they crossed the border illegally has been sentenced to about three years in federal prison.

Her attorney says Olivero agreed to let her rented home be used as a temporary staging point for border crossers at $50 a head because she was desperate, owed more than $1,000 in rent and was raising six children while living on food stamps, recycling cans and taking odd jobs.
However, Olivero says she wasn’t prepared for the dozens of people who showed up last November. Suspicious neighbors called police, who found 44 people in the house, backyard and a shed.
