Autism Mural Unveiled

The non-profit group People Service Action held a special unveiling at the Yuma Art Center as part of National Autism Awareness Month. Local young artists created two paintings in the shape of puzzle pieces; one represents those living with autism and the other their community. Both pieces come together to form one piece symbolizing the importance of unity.

PSA was formed in the early seventies and specializes in psycho-social rehabilitation programs through several art studios and galleries throughout the state. Here in Yuma the non-profit has initiated Art Awakenings a program aimed at allowing those with autism to express themselves through art.

Fernanda Rodriguez a Youth Therapist with PSA tells us how the Yuma community has come together to help those living with autism.
