Local business managers discuss Proposition 206

As the New Year’s festivities approach this weekend, many local businesses and employees are preparing for the possible approval of Proposition 206.

The proposition was initially proposed on Election Day and is expected to pass on January 1, 2017.

Although multiple business groups attempted to overturn Proposition 206, many local business managers say they believe the proposed law will be a positive change for employees.

The General Manager for Yuma’s Native Grill and Wings said he expects the wage increase will improve the work dynamic among employees.

“I think bringing [up the minimum wage] is going to be a positive thing,” Eduardo Fonseca said. “It’ll definitely create more moral, so I think people will bring a positive energy into work, so it could help all of us.”

Since many other business groups attempted to overturn the wage increase, the Arizona Supreme Court is investigating whether the proposition will be approved on January 1, 2017.

According to the Associated Press, Supreme Court officials are expected to make a final decision before the proposed date.
