Lack of sleep linked to weight gain, new study says

MGN

(KYMA, KECY/CNN) - A new study says a lack of sleep may be linked to gaining belly fat.

"Insufficient sleep can influence our eating behavior, making us eat more and consume foods, especially high in carbohydrates and fat," explains Cardiovascular Medicine Researcher Naima Covassin.

The study was published in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology; and it states not getting enough sleep can make someone snack more often.

Of course, excess eating can lead to weight gain in general but eating in the evening and having less sleep can create an irregular appetite.

"Showed not only an increase in body weight, but specifically an increase in belly fat," continued Dr. Covassin.
