Ways to lower risk of colorectal cancer
(KYMA, KECY/CNN) - It's Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month and experts give tips on how to take care of your colon while preventing any future problems.
This type of cancer is a leading cause of cancer deaths in men and women and is expected to cause over 52,000 in 2022, so one man began the Colorectal Cancer Alliance to promote awareness.
Screening tools and other types of treatments have helped lower the death rate in the past few decades.
"For the general public, the screening age, just about a year ago, dropped to 45, so everybody that's at average risk should get screened at 45," said CEO of the Alliance Michael Sapienza.
Screening before the age 45 is the best way to detect the cancer if you're at risk, though a high fiber diet and exercise can help lower risk too.
