Contract worker for Twitter speaks out amid company turmoil

(NBC) - Amidst the Twitter turmoil, a contract worker has spoken up about their experience with the company.

Former Twitter staff member Melissa Ingle checked tweets for misinformation since September 2021.

However, via email, she was no longer an employee on November 12.

She says other former full-time employees have told her they had to sign an NDA to get their severance benefits.

"On the current path, I'm really, really worried about Twitter's future."

Since Ingle was a contract employee of the company, she was not eligible for a severance package.

So, she made the decision to speak out on what is taking place.

"Over time, these things build up, and the site will become more abusive, more extreme and less reliable over time."

Cal State Professor Grant Kien notes that the absence of employees, like Ingle, will shape Twitter user's experience.

"He gets to say he's rescuing democracy and reintroducing a certain type of political discourse on Twitter. While it overshadows for the moment, [it is] the really tough news that people at Twitter have had in the past couple of weeks."
