Front runners in California Recall Election
A candidate has been the front runner for the election - Vince Ybarra reports
IMPERIAL COUNTY, Calif. (KECY, KYMA) - The fight over who will be governor continues with less than one week away from Election Day.
There are 46 candidates running in this recall election. With the variety of people running for governor, there is an obvious front runner, Republican candidate Larry Elder. And he is making his way around California, with his most recent visit in Santa Barbara.
According to Elder’s website, he is running for governor for a handful of reasons, the main one being COVID-19. Elder said Newsom has failed Californian’s by keeping businesses closed and kids out of school.
From a financial stand point, Elder has raised more than $13 million for his recall election campaign. This is the most money raised by anyone during this recall election, even current Governor Gavin Newsom. Republican John Cox has also raised a significant amount of funds for his campaign, over $11 million to be exact.
Imperial County residents are ready for the recall election, some already voting, feeling the importance of this election.
“It’s a big necessity that we vote, you know. Sometimes we say, ‘oh they didn’t do this, they didn’t do that’, but we didn’t vote. So we do our part by voting,” said Victor Rodriguez, an Imperial resident.
