11th Democratic Debate to be held in Phoenix

Debate to be held March 15 - location to be announced

PHOENIX, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - The Democratic National Committee (DNC) announced Friday it will hold its 11th Presidential debate in Phoenix on Sunday, March 15.

CNN and Univision will host the debate. It will air between 5 and 7 p.m. The DNC has not released information on the location, or on the moderators.

The debate takes places just two days before Democrats in Arizona, Florida, Illinois, and Ohio, head to the polls to select the party's Presidential nominee.

DNC Chairman, Tom Perez, says Arizona is now an important piece of the political puzzle. In the statement announcing the debate Perez writes:

"Arizona is a battleground state and it's clear Democrats can win here at every level of the ballot. After historic Democratic victories in 2018, we're putting the Republicans on defense in the Grand Canyon State...

This debate will showcase our Democratic presidential candidates, highlight Trump's record of broken promises and make it clear that Democrats are fighting to give Arizonans a better future,"

A Democratic Presidential candidate hasn't won a general election in Arizona since 1996. Back then President Bill Clinton carried the state after losing it four years earlier.
