Top Arizona officials certify 2022 electioon
Current Secretary of State and Governor Doug Ducey signed off on the 2022 results
PHOENIX (KECY, KYMA) - The results are official.
Nearly a month after election day top Arizona government figures gathered in the state capitol to certify the 2022 election.
Governor-elect Katie Hobbs, current governor Doug Ducey, the state attorney general, and chief justice of the state supreme court were all in attendance.
Putting their stamp of approval on this year’s vote.
“I want to thank the voters of Arizona. This process does not happen without you,” Hobbs said.
The statewide canvas is required by state law to take place on the 4th Monday after election day.
After all Arizona counties have certified their results.
The canvas requires the governor’s signature, with outgoing governor Doug Ducey saying voting ensures Americans’ voices are heard.
“This is a responsibility I do not take lightly, it’s a process that recognizes the votes cast by the citizens of our great state,” Ducey said.
While the canvas took place on time, some counties delayed their certifications over perceived issues in this year's election.
Losing Republican candidates in statewide races is also challenging the results in court.
Governor-elect Hobbs says this time democracy prevailed, but the fight isn’t finished.
“2024 will bring a host of challenges from the election denial community that we must prepare for,” Hobbs said.
The statewide election winners will be inaugurated in Phoenix on January 5th.
