Two people died in a plane crash on the Ohio-West Virginia border

MARIETTA, Ohio (NBC) - The Ohio State Highway Patrol says that the pilot and a passenger are dead following a plane crash in Marietta.

This eyewitness video shows the flames and smoke from the scene.

Ohio State Highway Patrol confirmed the pilot and passenger on the aircraft died.

Fortunately, Marietta citizen were safe and sound.

However, a number of vehicles on the car lot suffered the most damage.

The twin-engine plane departed John Glenn International Airport in Columbus shortly after 6:30 am.

The police do not know where the plane was going.

The crash remains under investigation by both the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board.

Marietta is located right along the Ohio River on the border between Ohio and West Virginia.
