49ers fans react to loss against Philadelphia Eagles
SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. (CBS, KYMA/KECY) - The 49er faithful became the 49er hopeful after Sunday's loss against the Philadelphia Eagles.
While fans stuck it out to the end, they watched the clock tick down toward a heartbreaking loss.
“Oh, it’s soul-crushing. I did get teary-eyed," said Sarah Stallins, a 49ers fan.
Even heading home after the game, the Niners, while in mourning, were still loud and proud.
Racked by penalties and injuries, some fans said they knew it was over before the end of the game.
“Once Purdy went down, we didn’t really have a chance," said Kelly Davis, another 49ers fan.
“If Jalen Hurts got hurt it was done, they’d be done equally," said Oscar Cortez, another 49ers fan.
Loss for fans, win for local businesses
But a loss for the Niners is still a win for local business.
“AFC, NFC championship weekend is the biggest weekend of the year for football. So this is kind of the Super Bowl of going out to watch football for local establishments, said Clubhouse 56 owner Bobby Griffith.
Clubhouse 56, a Niners Nation heavy, stayed busy for the AFC Championship Sunday; people like Kansas City Chiefs fan Brian Kirn made the rounds.
“We’ll be out bouncing around seeing where a fun place, a fun vibe is gonna be.”
Down the road, Stoney's Rockin Rodeo put the 'party' in Watch Party Sunday, keeping spirits high.
“I’ve been a Niner fan since 86. I’m happy to be a part of the 49er faithful," said Sammy Styles.
Looking ahead
Local spots remain in the spotlight until the stadium lights shut off for the season.
“When football goes away there’s a bit of a downturn until we get into March Madness," Griffith spoke.
Business owners and Niners fans alike are already looking ahead to next year to keep the Super Bowl dreams alive.
“I hope Purdy comes back as our number one quarterback and takes us all the way," Davis concluded.
