Caballeros de Yuma host 36th annual Independence Day flag raising ceremony
YUMA, Ariz. (KECY, KYMA) - Bright and early this Fourth of July morning the Caballeros de Yuma hosted the 36th annual Independence Day flag raising ceremony.
Locals kicked off Independence Day at the Yuma Armed Forces park, to celebrate the birth of our nation and honor those who have served and currently serve to protect our country.
Marine Corps Air Station Yuma's Commanding Officer Colonel Chuck Dudik served as this year’s keynote speaker.
“My take away today is that we must all navigate any challenge, internal or external, and prioritize the united states of America, over those things that may divide us just as preceding generations have done for centuries,” said Dudik.
The ceremony continued with awards presented to past and present military personnel as well as the singing of patriotic songs.
Staff Sergeant Ahmed Elinbabi won the Non-commissioned Officer of the Year Award.
“It’s a big deal to be the installation NCO of the year and seeing the dedication and the patriotism of the community and how they all come together to put something like this together. I wasn’t really expecting this but it was awesome,” said Elinbabi.
Colonel Dudik encourages everyone to remember the level of commitment required to maintain our freedom and the sacrifices of so many over the last 246 years.
Colonel Dudik says he loves the Fourth of July and everything it represents, challenging people to focus on the deeper meaning behind the holiday.
“As we look to celebrate our Independence Day, I respectfully request we challenge each other, to enjoy the forthcoming cookouts and fireworks, but more importantly, but more importantly, to continue to examine our individual and collective ideals values and priorities.”
