Migrants now crossing into Yuma at night
Rising temperatures may be the reason why as CBP continues to apprehend over 1,000 migrants a day
YUMA, Ariz. (KECY, KYMA) - Crossing spots along the wall for migrants coming to Yuma during the day are mostly empty.
But according to the most recent Yuma apprehension numbers, agents continue to make over 1,000 apprehensions a day.
This is possible because now the majority of illegal crossings, and apprehensions, are taking place during the night, and early morning hours, when temperatures are 30 to 40 degrees cooler than daytime highs.
The border wall just north of County 14th Street, now has become a makeshift bus stop, as buses come like clockwork.
Big groups of migrants continue to show up at the wall seemingly every 30 minutes.
Everyone is lined up, documented, and transported to Yuma Sector headquarters to likely make their asylum claims, and be processed.
All of this occurs with Title 42 still in place at the border, which allows agents to expel migrants of certain nationalities to Mexico immediately after crossing.
But in May, only 3% of Yuma's over 33,000 total apprehensions were expelled under the health policy.
Yuma now is over 211,000 total apprehensions since October 1st, more people than the entire population of Yuma County according to the 2020 census.
The Yuma Sector still has had the 3rd most apprehensions of any U.S. border sector with a total of 211,802 so far this fiscal year.

That's bigger than the population of Yuma County.
