2003 Yuma High School grad Jackie Johnson-Powell is one of 30 inaugural inductees
EUGENE, Ore. ( KYMA, KECY-TV ) - On Monday June 6th, 2022, Jackie Johnson-Powell found herself enshrined into the inaugural Collegiate Athlete Hall of Fame for the sports of track & field and cross country. 30 members were inducted and Johnson-Powell was one of the 12 in attendance.
In her one on one interview with host John Anderson, Johnson-Powell described what the sport of track and field meant to her.
"You know what," Johnson-Powell said. "I have five kids at home so everyday I try to leave everything out on the track and teach them that hard work definitely pays off as long as you put in the effort."
"Last thing I just want to know," Anderson said. "like, we're sitting up here with Jesse Owens granddaughters, what's it like to be a part of this group?"
"I can't even form the words into sentences to tell you how honored I am to be here with the goats," Johnson-Powell said. "These GOATs standing in front of you, right next to me."
"You're one of them," Anderson said.
"I know, that's awesome," Johnson-Powell replied.
