L.A. man wants compensation for Bird scooter accident that left him paralyzed
LOS ANGELES (KYMA, KECY) - A Bird scooter accident has reportedly left a man paralyzed.
Daniel Peña claims a broken sidewalk caused the accident.
He says he was on his way to a job interview riding a bird scooter on the sidewalk when a broken sidewalk caused him to lose control.
He hit his head against a tree.
He’s now suing the City of Los Angeles, but the scooter company is demanding a part of the settlement.
One basis of the lawsuit is there was a failure to maintain the tree that was owned and controlled by the city and the condition of the sidewalk.
Peña’s attorney says a part of the scooter company’s agreement with the city is that it is supposed to protect it against lawsuits.
It comes as a University of California Los Angeles study says the injury rate for some scooter riders is higher than that for motorcycles.
