APS: When is it too hot to shut off electricity to delinquent customers?
The Arizona Public Service Electric Company ( APS ), is trying to prevent residents from falling victim to not paying their electric bill on time or being subject as a delinquent customer.
APS serves about 1.2 million customers in the state of Arizona and about 80-thousand customers in Yuma County. At the moment Regina Twomey with APS in Yuma said there is a moratorium, thus preventing the company from shutting off anyone’s power.
” Were not cutting off any power through October 15th those rules we’re set in place, ” said Twomey .
Customers who are passed the hundred-dollar mark could be in danger of their power being cut off, however, Twomey said there is a process to be followed before any decision is made.
” We will reach out, we will call you, we will put door hangers on your door reminding you but once it’s reached a certain point where we can’t get a hold of you then we will shut it off, ” said Twomey .
During the summer months, APS did not shut of anyone’s power including the one-hundred thousand customers that were over past due in Arizona, totaling 31-million-dollars for those months.
” When it was a high heat advisory, power was not shut off, so June, July, August and September were not shutting off power even for excessive delinquencies, ” said Twomey .
