Happy National Farmer’s Day!
YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - Tuesday is a celebration of one of America's oldest industries.
It's National Farmer's Day.
October 12 is a perfect time to honor the hard-working farmers across the country, but especially here in the desert southwest.
However, there's no time for break as planting season is just beginning in Yuma and Imperial Counties. Nationally, the harvesting season is wrapping up.
"I always like to think everyday is National Farmers Day. You don't have to celebrate farmers but just, I think we should all be thankful for the blessings that we have and having an affordable and bountiful food supply is certainly something we shouldn't take for granted," said Yuma farmer John Boelts. "Everybody involved in agriculture in this country from farmers to farmworkers, everybody should be celebrated when you take that fork or spoon and take a bite."
Farmers provide food for our table and some of the clothes we wear.
That's why we should use this day to express our gratitude.
To celebrate National Farmer's Day, appreciate the fruits and vegetables a little more or even go out and personally thank a farmer.
