Brawley Police still on the lookout for attempted murder suspect
A neighborhood is still on high alert after a 36-year old man was shot in the back last week in Brawley.
The shooting happened February 28 after neighbors reported hearing multiple gunshots near North Eastern Avenue and E Street.
Danny, a 65-year old Brawley resident, was home the night the gunshots went off.
“I told my wife ‘Get the kids put them on the ground cause it sounded like it was just right here. And next thing I know, I’m out here turned the lights on. I’m out here looking to see if I see anybody. But when I came out, you can smell the powder,” said Danny.
Commander Brett Houser of the Brawley Police Department said authorities arrived on scene and found a man who suffered a single gunshot wound to the back.
“We immediately contacted medical contact services. So Brawley Fire Department and AMR ambulance services responded to the area and determined that his injuries were serious enough that he was life flighted out by Reach,” said Houser.
This shooting just hits too close to home for residents.
Danny added, “It’s strange. I mean we’ve heard shootings around here before but not just outside your window.”
Law enforcement is still looking for the suspect.
Houser said, “We have one individual described as a Hispanic male adult. We don’t have an age for this. We have one vehicle fleeing the area. We don’t have any further details than that.”
Anyone with any information about the shooting can call the Brawley Police Department.
