Border Patrol arrests man wanted for sexual assault
Border Patrol agents arrested a man Friday morning suspected of illegally entering the United States, who had a warrant out for sexually assaulting a child.
According to the U.S. Customs and Border Protection, agents located a man 18 miles west of the Calexico Port of Entry, suspected of entering the country illegally. Authorities questioned the man and determined he was illegally present. He was arrested and transported to the El Centro station.
Following a records check, the man was identified as 32-year-old Hector Rene Portillo, of Guatemala. Agents discovered Portillo had an arrest warrant out of Kaufman County, Texas, for sexual assault of a child.
Portillo will be prosecuted for illegal entry and will be extradited to Kaufman County Sheriff’s Office for his active warrant.
Portillo told authorities that he intended to travel to Los Angeles to find work.
