Stolen Calexico Fire ambulance recovered in Holtville
2 suspects accused of stealing an ambulance from the Calexico Fire Department were arrested Friday.
The ambulance was reported stolen Friday morning.
Det. Adrian Chilpa said, ” Some of our officers were dispatched to the El Centro Regional Medical Center in reference to a stolen ambulance.”
A tip on Facebook led authorities to a residential area in Holtville where they located the stolen ambulance.
“So it was very crucial that the community got involved. They were aware of what was going on in social media and ultimately responded to that,” said Chilpa .
The 2 suspects who were arrested now stand accused of multiple crimes.
Chilpa added, “Some of those charges include possesion of stolen property, stolen vehicle, and conspiracy to commit a crime.”
According to Calexico Fire Department, most of the equipment inside the ambulance looked to be intact.
Fire Chief Diego Favila said, “For the most part looked like they just used it for a ride. To get from point A to point B. We’re obviously going to take it back to the station. We’ll go through the inventory and we’ll take it from there.”
The fire chief also said that with the recovery of the ambulance, they can now fully operate to serve the city of Calexico.
