Gila County jail inmate dead after being found unresponsive
Gila County authorities say an inmate is dead after being found unresponsive in his cell at the county jail in Globe.
The Sheriff’s Office says jail staff found the inmate unresponsive Tuesday afternoon and that he died after being taken to a hospital.
The office identified the dead inmate as Gene Chadwick Beason and said he was arrested Sunday by the office on suspicion of aggravated assault.
No additional information about circumstances of the incident was immediately available, but the office said an investigation was underway.
