Police: Man killed in exchange of gunfire with officers

Buckeye police say a man is dead following an exchange of gunfire with officers who responded to a Christmas Day call about a fight between a woman and her boyfriend.

Police spokeswoman Donna Rossi said Wednesday that three officers returned fire after 34-year-old Antonio Ramos came out of the house and shot more than two dozen rounds.

Rossi said police earlier got the girlfriend, another woman, and two children out of the home while Ramos was inside.

The Maricopa County Medical Examiner will conduct an autopsy to determine the cause and manner of death.

Rossi says an investigation is underway and that the officers who returned fire have been placed on standard administrative leave.

Authorities say Ramos was armed with three semi-automatic handguns and one semi-automatic rifle.
