Over 300 migrants surrender to Border Patrol near border

A group of 306 Central American migrants surrendered to Border Patrol agents near the international border west of Lukeville, Ariz. this week.

According to the U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Ajo Station agents patrolling the border 15 miles west of Lukeville found 242 migrants Wednesday night. On Thursday morning, agents with the Casa Grande Station guarding the border on the Tohono O’odham Nation found a group of 64 migrants who surrendered to authorities.

CBP officials said the groups comprised of family units, along with teens and pregnant women that came from Guatemala, El Salvador, and Honduras.

Agents conducted an initial screening that identified a pregnant woman and four children who required immediate care. The five individuals were transported to a hospital in Goodyear, Ariz. and later released to Border Patrol agents for further processing.

In Tucson, authorities said nine children of ages 1 to 13 were identified with flu-like symptoms and were taken to a local hospital for further treatment.
