Auditors say they were not testing into allegations against the PAAC

An audit of the Pacific Avenue Athletic Complex was expected at the Yuma City Council meeting Wednesday evening.

The City of Yuma asked for an audit after allegations surfaced about the finances behind the PAAC.

However, the auditor presented an audit of the last two fiscal years for the entire City of Yuma.

The auditor concluded that there were no irregularities found.

Councilman Michael Shelton mentioned the presentation was not what he expected and asked if the auditor looked into the accusations after the presentation.

“We were not testing to those accusations,” responded the auditor.

Shelton also questioned if the City Council was up to date throughout the entire process leading up to the opening of the complex, after the City of Yuma offered a presentation on the history of the PAAC.

“Did you keep the council briefed at every step of the way?” asked Shelton.

“Yes, yes council member Shelton. Yes I did,” responded Greg Wilkinson, City of Yuma administrator.

A bond presentation also addressed the accusations posed regarding the PAAC, including the 2 percent tax and impact fees.

The Yuma City Council ended the discussion after the deputy mayor offered a statement.

“I think it is now time for the council to move on and focus all of our time on the police department pay plan.”
