Arizona workers to see minimum wage increase in the new year

Arizona workers will get a holiday treat in the form of increased wages.

The state’s minimum wage will rise to $11 an hour starting Jan. 1, the third phase of four annual increases mandated by voters in 2016.

Arizona’s minimum wage currently stands at $10.50 an hour. In 2019, there will be a 50 cent an hour increase and will be followed by another boost to $12 an hour in 2020.

The state’s minimum wage will be $3 less for waiters and bartenders and other tipped employees.

The wage increase can be attributed to Proposition 206, the ballot measure mandated the state’s minimum wage to rise annually. It also required employers to give employees five days sick leave.
