Local organization provides children in need with a day of kindness

Valley Horizon Elementary school hosted K.I.D.S. CuddleKit Closet for the 10th Kindness Makes a Difference Day.

On Saturday, over 275 students from Yuma County elementary schools were invited to attend and get treats, games and a visit from Santa.

Each child is sponsored by a teacher or community member, which provides them with a special CuddleKit including a new pair of shoes, hoodie sweatshirt, fleece blanket, book and wrapped gift from their wish list.

Often times, these children come from foster homes or situations where they may not get a Christmas.

A Pay it Forward station was also set up in which each child had the opportunity to decorate two holiday cookies – one for themselves and one for someone else.

At the end of the day, the tray of cookies is delivered to a local nursing home for all to enjoy.

Liana Golsdboro , a board member with CuddleKit Closet said that this program benefits the community in more ways than one.

“We have three different outreach programs one of them is the pediatric CuddleKit program in which every time there is a child that is admitted to the hospital, they receive a CuddleKit, and then we also have just the CuddleKit program where anyone that’s in a school can fill out an application which a child that’s in need we will provide a CuddleKit for them,” Golsdboro said.

Volunteers from the Sheriff’s Office also participated by providing security for the event.
