Eyewitness describes scene with injured Marine
An eyewitness to the accident that left a marine seriously injured in Calexico on Tuesday said he saw the marine on the ground twisting slowly and painfully as if trying to get up.
He said the injured soldier gave loud and painful moans while paramedics and first-responders tended to him. The soldier appeared to be in severe agony. He said there were law enforcement units from several agencies blocking off First Street.
The eyewitness said the car that hit the soldier had massive damage to the windshield and hood. He said it took about 45 minutes to take the injured marine out of the area.
Police identified Kevin Leon, a 20-year-old Calexico resident, as the driver of the car that hit the marine.
He was released on a $50,000 bond.
