The latest on ICSO deputy who was assaulted

The deputy who was assaulted in Holtville last week is recovering, however, new details in the investigation show the deputy was attacked with a knife according to officials from the Imperial County Sheriff’s Office

It was last week when the deputy attempted to make contact with a suspect believed to be involved in a public disturbance.

A fight ensued and the deputy who has over a decade of service was assaulted and received cuts and a fractured jaw.
now we’re learning the cuts on the deputy’s face are worse than originally believed.

“We determined that some of his injuries were consistent with those of a stabbing wound caused by a knife,” said Lt. Jimmy Duran, of the Imperial County Sheriff’s Office.

The suspect 38-year-old Alex Padilla will be charged with 6 crimes.

“All these charges will end up with some enhancement due to the prior history of the suspect,” said Duran.

The sheriff’s office has received a large amount of support from the public.

“Not just from the city of Holtville but from the entire county. I believe they understand the seriousness of this assault and the community is totally onboard with us, “Duran added.

Lt. Duran said the duty’s of a deputy has its challenges.

“We are public servants. And as such, I think we now have taken that liability upon ourselves. It is hard knowing that you’re going out there and could be potentially facing some life-threatening situations,” Duran said.

Padilla’s next court appearance is expected to be early next month.
