Narcotics and rifle found on two suspects near Salton Sea

One juvenile and one adult were arrested Wednesday for having illegal narcotics and an AR-15 rifle at the Highway 95 checkpoint near Salton City.

Agents found 1.07 grams of fentanyl, 5.34 grams of methamphetamine, 729.6 grams of marijuana, 76 Alprazolam pills, 4 Oxycodone pills, and 2 Clonazepam pills, according to Border Patrol.

The rife was not registered to either of the suspects, according to Border Patrol.

This was all discovered after a canine on duty noticed something was off about the Volkswagen Jetta and sent it to secondary inspections.

“Many times when law enforcement officers encounter narcotics, firearms are present,” said Chief Patrol Agent Gloria I. Chavez. “This type of situation highlights the dangers our Border Patrol agents could face on any given day.”

Neither of the suspects have been identified. California Highway Patrol is currently investigating the incident.
