Amazon’s brainchild ‘Sidewalk’ is active
The new network links consumer products together to create a new data grid
PHOENIX, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - It's the latest innovation to come out of consumer giant Amazon. Sidewalk is active and that means that if you have an Echo or Ring device you're contributing to new network.
The system uses low-bandwith taking from each contributor and linking each device to make an expanded grid. According to Amazon, the new system would amplify your data range, to areas where WiFi is lacking.
Sidewalk is active and those who fail to opt out, will connected. That's what has Privacy Attorney Todd Kartchner worried, the network relies on data-sharing between each contributor.
Kartchner fears that the system is too new and could leave consumers vulnerable to a possible breach. Amazon states that their system is protected by a 3-layer encrypted security system.
Consumers interested in opting out of Sidewalk will have to do so by use of their Alexa app on their mobile device. Otherwise, your home network will be tied to those around you.
