Imperial County holding steady, with more than 42% of residents fully vaccinated

IMPERIAL COUNTY, Calif. (KYMA, KECY) - Imperial County inching closer to the halfway point of COVID vaccinations according to the Imperial County Public Health Department (ICPHD).

Close to 150,000 COVID-19 vaccine doses have been administered in the valley so far.

"We are close to 150-thousand first and second doses. We’re looking at 42.9% fully vaccinated within the eligible group. Alotta work, a lotta progress has been made," says Imperial County Public Health Department Director Janette Angulo.

Fully vaccinated, meaning each person has received either one dose of the Johnson and Johnson vaccine, or two doses of the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine.

The 12-15 age group is also making progress with vaccinations.

"As far as percentage, we’re looking at 59.9% of 12 and older with at least one dose of the covid vaccine. That’s amazing," explains Angulo.

The state of California now has an employer vaccination program available to organize covid vaccination clinics in the workplace.

"Now employers have a link directly to the state and then the state will coordinate. More than likely it will come back to the local health department and again and we’ll coordinate with the employer that’s interested in having clinics at their sites," says Angulo.

In just a couple of short weeks, June 15th, most establishments will be able to operate at full capacity as California's Blueprint for a Safer Economy is done away with and Beyond the Blueprint is implemented. Only what are called mega-events will still have some restrictions in place.

Mega-events are considered to be 5,000 or more individuals indoors and 10,000 or more individuals outdoors.
