Governor Doug Ducey tours Yuma fields
Governor Doug Ducey paid a visit to Yuma Friday morning and joined many state leaders at the Yuma Legislative Luncheon. Before the luncheon, the governor toured the heart of Yuma–its fields.
“Yuma is a leader across the country and really internationally in terms of leafy green vegetables, vegetables in general, and durum wheat,” expresses Arizona Governor Doug Ducey.
Friday’s visit was Governor Ducey’s fourth time in Yuma this year, and he says he is pleased not just with the crops Yuma farmers grow, but their water-handling as well.
“They’ve also been an incredibly responsible user of our water, they’ve applied technology to that,” explains Governor Ducey. “I want to see that as governor, I want to better understand it and see where we can be having better practices across the state.”
To get a sense of these better practices Governor Ducey personally met with members of the agriculture community during his tour.
He is approaching his second year in office and for 2017 he says he’s going to stay focused on protecting the vulnerable parts of Arizona.
“We’re gonna stay focused on growing our economy,” states Governor Ducey. “We’re gonna stay focused on K-12 education and make sure our kids our getting the best possible education. We also have to do the best function of government, we want to make sure public safety will be increased, we want to make sure our most vulnerable, our kids, are protected.”
