Arizona inmate escapes from work detail

The search is on for an inmate who escaped from a work detail in south central Arizona late Thursday morning.

The Arizona Department of Corrections says Carlos Corella-Rivera walked away from a prison work crew at the Graham County Fairgrounds in Safford . That’s about 80-miles northeast of Tucson.

The Department of Corrections has chase teams, dog teams, and its fugitive unit searching for Corella-Rivera . Local police and sheriff’s deputies are also helping with the hunt.

Corella-Rivera was serving a five-year sentence for a drug conviction. He is not considered dangerous.

He’s five-foot-four, weighs around 150-pounds, and has black hair and brown eyes.

Anyone with information on his whereabouts should call 911.
