President Biden meets with President-Elect Trump
WASHINGTON (NBC, KYMA/KECY) - President-Elect Donald Trump met with President Joe Biden in the Oval Office Wednesday
Trump is in Washington, D.C. working on his transition back to the White House in January.
In their Oval Office meeting, the former campaign rivals shook hands and talked about the need for a smooth transition.
"Donald, Congratulations, and uh...looking forward to having a like we said, smooth transition. Do everything we can to make sure you're accommodated, what you need. We're gonna get a chance to talk about some of that today," President Biden said.
Biden has sought to stick to his insistance that the peaceful transfer of power is critical, and he vowed, since Election Day, that his administration would hand over the reins.
"Politics is tough, and it's many cases not a very nice world, but it is a nice world today, and I appreciate very much a transition that's so smooth it'll be as smooth as it can get. And I very much appreciate it," the president-elect expressed.
Trump did not offer Biden the same meeting in 2020 as he refused to concede the election results and worked to delay Biden taking office.
Before the meeting at the White house, Trump met with Republican House lawmakers as they focus on the new administration's priorities.
The Senate is in the middle of a contentious vote for a new leader as longtime leader Mitch McConnell steps down from the post. It's not clear if the president-elect will meet with any of the contenders.
