CHP plans DUI checkpoint in Imperial County
Checkpoint scheduled for Friday night
EL CENTRO, Calif. (KYMA, KECY) - The California Highway Patrol (CHP) has a message for the Imperial Valley - if you don't want to get arrested, don't drive drunk.
This Friday night CHP will conduct a sobriety checkpoint somewhere in the Valley. Officers aren't saying where. They are saying they'll target areas where drunk or impaired drivers are common.
CHP says, traffic permitting, it will check every car that passes through the checkpoint for both drunk drivers and valid drivers licenses.
Officers say making arrests isn't their top priority. Educating the public is. They want to make sure drivers know that if they choose to break the law by driving under the influence, or without a valid license, the CHP will catch them.
A grant from the California Office of Traffic safety is paying for enhanced DUI enforcement, like Friday's checkpoint.
