Sunny & clear for now before a winter storm system arrives in the Desert Southwest

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY-TV) - For the next few days, we can expect clear and calm conditions with temperatures trending slightly cooler than normal for our afternoons.

Be aware of colder temperatures for our overnight hours as temperatures will drop down into the low and upper 40s or even colder where freezing potential is possible.

A winter storm system is on the way and is expected to arrive within our area on Sunday which will bring local impacts where we will experience stronger winds, greater rain chances, colder temperatures, and even snow for higher elevation areas.

Looking ahead to our weekend Saturday is looking nice and clear with plenty of sunshine before weather changes arrive toward the end of our weekend.

Rain chances are looking at about a 30-40% chance for the Imperial Valley Sunday and Monday whereas Yuma it's looking lighter at 20% Sunday and Monday.

By the first part of our week, temperatures will drop and are expected to experience the coldest days of the season so far.

Area frost is possible in some areas of the Desert Southwest for Tuesday-Thursday.
