News 11 Weather Authority: Excessive heat reaches new heights

YUMA, Ariz., (KYMA, KECY) - The latest ridge of high pressure has already proven to be the strongest yet in 2021.
As we have now endured 2 fulls days of excessive heat, our daytime highs in both Yuma and El Centro have reached up to 116 and 115 degrees respectively; a couple of degrees short of tying previous heat records.
Meanwhile, both Imperial and Blythe have broken heat records on Tuesday.
Imperial reached 114 degrees, snapping a record that had been standing for more than 40 years.
Blythe rose up to 120 degrees, snapping a 21 year record that stood at 117 degrees.
The Excessive Heat Warning should remain in place throughout our area into the next weekend, with records that could fall on Thursday and Friday.
