Cibola’s Johnson moving on to Arizona Christian
Cibola girls basketball star Myna Johnson stays close to close, signs college letter of intent with ACU
YUMA, Ariz. ( KYMA, KECY-TV ) - Myna Johnson finished her Cibola high school career scoring over 1,000 points, named team captain and gathered numerous awards during her years in Raider gym. On Tuesday afternoon with her parents by her side, teammates, friends, family and coaches in attendance, Myna signed her collegiate letter of intent to continue her studies and basketball career at Arizona Christian University in Glendale.
"I want to thank all the coaches i've had since I started playing in second grade, especially my first coach, my dad," Myna Johnson said during her speech. "I remember being in fifth grade, imagining the moment I would play high school basketball. I would hope and dream that I would make varsity as a freshman."
Not only did her dream come true, she eventually became a starter. She plays with heart, smarts and tenacity on the hardwood. Johnson says her style of play just came to her.
"Honestly, I've always been that kind of player," Johnson said. "It's nothing I was really taught, it's just one of my qualities I guess."
Those qualities caught to eye of a total of eight scholls all vying for her skill set. In the end, she chose to stay close to home and chose Arizona Christian University.
"It was what I felt most comfortable at," Johnson said. "I toured lot of schools and I just wanted to feel a comfort of like home since i'm going to be there awhile. I like that it's closer to home, iI love Yuma and family so that's what it came down to."
Myna wants to major in psychology and hopes to work with children with special needs.
