Former Angels employee sentenced to prison in overdose death of pitcher
(KYMA, KECY/ CNN) - It's been more than three years since Los Angeles angels pitcher Tyler Skaggs was found overdosed in a hotel room.
Now, the person who gave him those drugs will spend 22 years in prison.
Eric Prescott Kay, the former Communications Director of the Angels gave Skaggs fentanyl.
There were text messages in Skagg's phone from the day before his death suggesting that he had asked Kay to stop by his room with pills late that evening.
Skaggs died loaded up on alcohol and drugs, including high levels of multiple opioids - but officials say if he didn't have the fentanyl in his system, the medical examiner determined, the pitcher "would not have died."
The DEA's investigation found that Kay regularly dealt fentanyl - dubbed "blue boys" for their blue coloring - to Skaggs and others in the Angels organization at the stadium where they worked.
