Keeping the dream alive
Cibola multi-sport athletic great "weathering" through current pandemic.
Jordan Mitchell may go down in history as one of the greatest multi-sport athletes to come out of Cibola High School.
As a Raider, Mitchell's career on the varsity football program spanned 3 years, where he was every opposing defense's worst nightmare; amassing more than 5,000 yards and 68 touchdown as the gold and black's star running back.
His presence was equally dynamic in basketball, as he played on the varsity boy's squad all 4 years as a Raider; averaging 16 points a game from his sophomore to his senior campaigns.
After graduating in 2013, Mitchell's sports path started with football ,but would eventually turn to basketball.
He would eventually make his mark at Benedictine Mesa University in Phoenix, where he would set a number of school records on the court; including scoring the most points in a single season (2018-2019) with 458.
This would open the door for Mitchell to start a professional career in Australia this Spring, where he joined up with the Sutherland Sharks.
After a single game as a Shark, like the lives of most every person on the planet, Mitchell's life would take a dramatic shift.
The Coronavirus Pandemic would cause virtually every sport on earth to shut down.
Since that time, Mitchell has returned to his home residence in Phoenix with his life as a pro athlete on hold.
But, like many others in his position, Mitchell isn't letting social isolation alter his mission to live out his dreams.
Using his time to train on a nearby outdoor court and running miles every day, Mitchell has come to develop appreciation for the opportunities that he believes can easily be taken for granted; or even taken away.
"Being stuck at home, not being able to do anything or do the things you love to do. In my case, is playing basketball. So, I think that's pretty much; not only me, but everyone else needs to take from it, is everything we enjoy to do can be taken away from us and nothing is guaranteed."
