US looks into possible ban on foreign farmland
(CNN, KYMA/KECY) - States are accelerating efforts to block Chinese purchases of U.S. agricultural land.
A growing number are considering legislation to ban sales to so-called "foreign adversaries."
Eight states already have such laws.
Advocates say the U.S. needs to protect its food supply and military bases, while critics worry about discrimination.
Less than one percent of foreign-owned farmland in the U.S. belongs to Chinese investors.
