Clearer skies with below normal temperatures

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY-TV) - Today marks a rare astronomical event tonight where Mars will be Opposition (brightest/closest to Earth) and will be Occulted (covered by) the moon as well.

The moon will cover Mars just for an hour around 7:30 p.m. (MST) and the moon will also be the last full moon of the year.

Make sure to look East to find Mars shining brightly.

As our current weather system leaves our region it's bringing clearer and drier conditions for us for the Desert Southwest.

And for the rest of our evening, we will have lighter winds, clear skies all around, and chillier temperatures.

For the next few days, our weather conditions will stay dry and temperatures trending slightly below our seasonal average of 69 degrees.

By Friday, another weather system will arrive in the western part of the region, and by the end of the weekend and early next week, we can expect chillier temperatures, stronger winds, and even chances for rain showers.

There is potential for freezing temperatures in portions of the Desert Southwest, mainly expected in La Paz County starting Friday.
