The Twitterverse changing hands, Elon Musk takes over as the new owner

(KYMA, KECY/ CNN) - According to sources familiar with the decision, Elon Musk is the new owner of Twitter.

So, what it could mean for users? The answer could start with money.

Musk bought twitter for about $44 billion and he presumably wants to earn back his money. One analyst thinks he could leverage advertising - or make Twitter a subscription service.

Users also might notice a different approach to deleting tweets and banning users.

Musk has talked about that, but it's unclear what he might do. When it comes to Twitter bans, some wonder about one user in particular: former President Donald Trump.

Meanwhile, some immediate changes happened right away.

Sources say as soon as Musk's take-over closed Thursday night, Musk fired several Twitter executives, including CEO Parag Agrawal.

The acquisition of the social media platform by the world's richest man came after a months-long roller coaster of legal action and controversy.

Musk has walked back a previous statement that he planned to lay-off 75% of Twitter's San Francisco-based staff, but he admits to planning big changes, including relaxing content restrictions which could lead to the return of former President Donald Trump.

A judge had given the two sides until Friday to complete the purchase.
