Locals observe Labor Day at the river
YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - Labor Day has become a time for shopping, end-of-summer barbecues and spending the day off with loved ones and many locals are doing just that.
Labor day also means an extra long weekend for some.
So, locals tell me they’re getting errands done, prepping their grills and jumping in the pool in this triple-digit weather.
The Colorado River is Yuma's favorite spot for spending a day off in the water with crowds of friends and families who flock to get the best spot in the sand.
Many students like Cameron Clem from Gila Ridge High School are also taking advantage of the day off from school.
“I think we might cook out later too, normally with my family we just swim at the house or we go do something," said Clem.
Nothing beats quality time with loved ones and homemade food on days off.
Clem says her labor day traditions are simple.
“Just swim and cookout and just hangout with the friends and family," said Clem.
Labor day is a great reminder that the summer is coming to an end, but it was actually created as the celebration of the long hours Americans have put into their jobs every year.
