Medical experts are paying attention to new subvariant

(KYMA, KECY/ NBC News) - Medical experts say they are paying close attention to a new subvariant of the Coronavirus.

The BA.2.75 variant may be able to spread rapidly and get around immunity and previous infection, according to scientists.

However, it is still unclear whether it can cause more serious disease than other Omicron variants.

The new mutation was first identified in India, where it has spread to at least two states and one territory so far.

Cases have also been detected in Japan, Germany, the UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and the U.S.
