Governor Newsom proposing another $1 billion to fight wildfires

(KYMA, KECY/ CNN) - Governor Gavin Newsom has a new plan to fight fire with fire, unveiling a $1.2 billion proposal intended to prevent major wildfires.

The plan calls for doing targeted, controlled burns in more than 400,000 acres by 2025 to lessen the overall risk.

California will work with federal and tribal authorities on the plan to better protect communities and the state's natural resources as well.

The proposal includes funds for a training center to instruct firefighters statewide on how to use controlled or "prescribed" fires effectively.
