Man in standoff with Beverly Hills police dies
Cause of death still unknown to investigators
BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. (KYMA, KECY/CNN) - After an hours-long standoff with police, a man was found dead inside a van, parked in the middle of a parking lot.
Officers say it all started Saturday evening when they received a call. The caller reported a suspicious vehicle at Rodeo Drive and Wilshire Boulevard.
Once police arrived, they report one man was found inside of the car. However, he refused to get out, nor did he follow officers' commands.
Authorities reveal they surrounded the van with squad cars and called in help from the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) unit.
According to a police report, the driver put aluminum foil on all of the windows at one point.
The hours-long standoff led officers to block off the area.
Local police explain that after the hours passed, they assumed the man inside the van had died.
That's when SWAT officers finally entered the van, finding him unresponsive.
Investigators say the cause of the man's death is unknown.
