Chandler Officer Farrar laid to rest
CHANDLER, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - A long-time Arizona lawman who was killed in the line of duty was laid to rest Saturday.
50-year-old Christopher Farrar was struck and killed by a suspect in a stolen car.
Services were held Saturday at the Compass Christian Church in Chandler.
Farrar was an 18-year veteran of the Chandler police force. His distinguished career included the medal of honor in 2004 and four lifesaving awards.
The Chandler Police Chief, Sean Duggan reflects on Farrar's character serving the people of Chandler.
"Chris had a heart of gold. His personal philosophy was pretty simple. Treat people fairly. And with dignity and respect," Duggan said. "He touched people's lives. In fact, we know he changed lives for the better. There are four people in our community that are alive today because of Chris's heroic lifesaving efforts."
25-year-old Jonathon Altland is charged with killing Farrar.
He is being held on a $3 million bond facing a number of charges, including first-degree murder of a law enforcement officer.
