Mail thieves may target stimulus checks
Keep an eye on your mail
YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - As people await their physical checks to be delivered, authorities say thieves may target stimulus checks.
Physical stimulus checks are scheduled to be released soon, so as a precaution multiple law enforcement offices across the nation are advising the public to pay extra attention to your mailbox.
The Imperial County Sheriff's office recently posted an alert on Facebook with tips to avoid mail theft:
If the IRS does not have your direct deposit information, the stimulus check will be sent via traditional mail — if you are eligible to receive it.
Money.com reports some paper checks are arriving on or around April 24, however it is possible some could wait weeks or even months for checks to arrive in the mail.
The IRs says over half of the approximate 150 million payments have already been delivered.
So, if you fall in the category of someone who is awaiting your physical check, it would not hurt to pay extra close attention to your mailbox.
