YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY)-A rider and a horse were stuck Wednesday in the Colorado River, according to the Yuma Fire Department (YFD).

YFD says when they arrived at the scene, about half a mile east of the Ocean-to-Ocean bridge, both the rider and the horse were able to make it out of the river successfully.

The rider was evaluated for injuries but refused additional assistance.

According to YFD, the river flows have recently been greatly increased, these releases upstream are causing deeper and faster flowing water in our area.

It is not known if this contributed to the problems the horse and rider were having, but it is a reminder for people using the river area for outdoor recreation to use extra caution.
